Since the first UK Covid-19 lockdown began in 2020, millions have been bereaved. The National Day of Reflection, coordinated by the charity Marie Curie and officially supported by the Church of England, will designate a special day to reflect on collective loss and grief.

There will be a minute’s silence at 12 noon on 23 March to create a moment that shows support for the millions of people who’ve been bereaved. It might also be a day to connect with someone who is grieving. Perhaps there is someone known to you who might appreciate receiving a card or a telephone call.

Tuesday 23rd March

As well as stopping in silence at 12 noon on 23 March we wanted to offer a tangible sign of hope to the people in our communities across the Aylsham and District Team and so have launched Seeds of Hope. With the generous sponsorship and support of Ivan Fishers Independent Funeral Homes we will be placing gift bags of wild flower seed in local shops and in our church buildings for people to take away. The flowers that grow from the seeds are a sign of hope and a token of our support and care. Please do collect some Seeds of Hope for yourself or as a gift for someone else.

A Prayer

Dear God,

Be with us as we think about all that has changed this year,

And help us to trust that you are always with us.

Be close to all those who are grieving or unwell,

Show us how to reach out to others with kindness and care,

So that hope shines out in every heart and home,
